While reading my article, I could help but to put my TV and Gaming time into the equation. I sat down and basically opened up my DVR saved list and counted the hours I had taped to watch of TV on a given day. I recorded three, 30 minute shows and two 1 hour programs. I was disgusted with myself! I also thought about my gaming time, and I really couldn’t put a number down as of late due to my Playstaion breaking.
Well I was recently I was able to play my friends Playstation Move. It’s the newest installment to the Sony Playstation brand of gaming. It is its variation of the Nintendo Wii. When I first picked up the controller I was hooked. The way I had to format my avatar to my height and motion specifications was just amazing to me. Wii had my attention for the past few years, but Sony really out did themselves with this gaming consol. We began to play volleyball and the game was AWESOME. The Move had volleyball bowling, fencing, the works. The next thing I knew I had been standing in front of the TV playing the game for three EASY hours. When I finally looked up most of the party had left, and only a few people, watching in just as much awe as I, remained. I couldn’ help but to think what I could have accomplished with these THREE HOURS I spent essentially on visual stimulation.
While reading the Article I posted on ADHD and how it affects you, I can see how studies come up with the conclusion that they cause attention problems. For now, I hope, Im going to try and assess my TV time and my attention to less stimulating things and SEE where I end up. I’ll keep you posted.
