Recovery for Addicts

People are so addicted to video games that they make recovery centers for such a thing!

Although extreme cases of Internet and video-game addiction have not been widely publicized in the U.S., it's a different story in Europe and in East Asia, where game-playing has even been linked to player death! In South Korea a man actually died from playing video-games! He played for over 50 hours with very little food and water, which led to his death!

To me this seems ridiculous! I could not even imagine someone close to me dying over playing video-games! I feel like this can be monitored in a much better way. In the 24hour video game cafes, I think there should be a time limit or breaks within the tournaments to prevent death! I think life is way more important than a video-game, but that may just me my point of view.

In the article I posted about a recovery center for people addicting to gaming, O'Brien states that "At this point I think it's appropriate that it's not considered an official disease." However, if it is NOT a disease then what is it? Isn't addiction to alcohol, cigarettes, and even sex considered a disease? Then why would this be any different?

Most people are saying that there is nothing wrong with this technology, the lack of education about it is to blame, and it's all "how it is used." So, if you or anyone you know is addicted to video-games make sure your addiction is under control and do not let video-games take over your life!
